Album of the Year is Faith No More's sixth studio album . It was released on June 3, 1997.

Origin and style

Hudson replaced Dean Menta, who only played on the King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime tour . The album was recorded in Billy Gould's own studio. It's produced a little smoother than the previous albums. Some pieces have hard rock and pop influences, synthesizer sounds can be heard, while others are harder and some also seem more experimental. The album cover shows the Czechoslovak President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk .

Naked in Front of the Computer addresses the possibilities of e-mail contacts, which were becoming more popular at the time, while Pristina refers to the Yugoslavia conflict of the 1990s and tells the story of two lovers who are separated by the war. After this album, the band broke up in April 1998.

reception

The album was recorded mixed. Marcus Schleutermann awarded seven out of ten points in Rock Hard magazine . He criticized it as "a calculated looking, complacent and boring infusion" of Angel Dust and a lack of willingness to take risks. However , he rated Mike Patton's singing positively. Greg Prato from Allmusic rated it four out of five stars. Stripsearch , Last Cup of Sorrow and Ashes to Ashes are outstanding pieces, and with Collision they also contain heavy rock songs. The album is a worthy end to the band's career.
