(1987)

We Care a Lot is the debut album of Faith No More , then on the vinyl release of the album as "Faith. No More ”. It was released in 1985 on the small, San Francisco- based label Mordam Records .

Origin and style

We Care a Lot was created after the band had recorded a five-track demo with their own funds , which Mordam's label founder Ruth Schwartz got. As a result, the record was released as the first album of the small independent label. The album title comes from the song of the same name, which was heard again in a revised version on the successor Introduce Yourself . He criticizes the hypocritical situation surrounding the Live Aid benefit festival in view of the wealth of the participating musicians. Musically, you can already hear some of the later trademarks of the band, such as catchy riffs, heavier guitars, keyboards and diverse song structures. The voice of the then singer Chuck Mosley was sometimes referred to as "monotonous" and "colorless" on the album. The album was initially only released on LP and cassette - it was only released on CD in 1995.

The track We Care a Lot was later used as the theme song for the television show Dirty Jobs on the Discovery Channel .

reception

On the Allmusic.com website , Greg Prato called the sound of Faith No More's debut album “not as focused as it will be” despite some recognizable later components of the band. It becomes clear that the missing piece of the puzzle is the future singer Mike Patton . It awarded three out of five stars.
