The Emperor Makers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kaisermacher was the title of an exhibition on the history of the imperial coronations in Frankfurt am Main . It took place from September 30, 2006 to January 14, 2007 and was organized by four Frankfurt museums to commemorate the 650th anniversary of the Golden Bull and the 200th anniversary of the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire:

Exhibition program

The following museums contributed to the exhibition with around 900 exhibits and an extensive accompanying program:

  • The Institute for City History placed the imperial copy of the Golden Bull at the center of its contributions and provided information in the cloister of the Carmelite monastery about the constitutional history from the Middle Ages to today. For the first time in a long time, the Frankfurt copy of the Golden Bull was shown publicly again.
  • The Historical Museum presented the election and coronation ceremonies of the Roman-German kings and emperors, which took place in Frankfurt am Main until 1792.
  • The cathedral museum in Frankfurt Cathedral particularly showed the liturgical rituals of election and coronation.
  • The Judengasse Museum dealt with the special position of Frankfurt Jews as imperial servants and the difficult relationship between the emperor, the Jewish community and the townspeople.

The accompanying program included public tours of the electoral and coronation sites in Frankfurt's old town , lectures and concerts as well as a special program for children and young people. At each of the 19 selected locations, a red exhibition column informed passers-by of the historical significance of the location. The tour to all places was marked by red dots on the pavement.

The exhibition cost 2.7 million euros. With almost 100,000 visitors, the success exceeded the organizers' expectations.

In March 2007, the Art Directors Club for Germany (ADC) honored the Frankfurt Atelier Markgraph at the ADC Awards in Berlin for the successful design of the exhibition Die Kaisermacher . Every year the ADC selects the best German creative works.

The German Historical Museum in Berlin and the Kulturhistorisches Museum in Magdeburg presented a similar historical exhibition on the occasion of the anniversary year 2006 with the exhibition Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation .
