The Olsen Gang goes crazy is a play by Peter Dehler based on motifs from the films about the Olsen Gang by Erik Balling and Henning Bahs .

Numerous plot elements known from the films are combined into a new plot: After his release from prison, Egon Olsen and his two cronies Benny and Kjeld try to get to the millions of Bang-Johansen who were evaded before the tax.

premiere

The play had its premiere on August 23, 1997 under the direction of the author at the Cottbus State Theater . The film's creators, Erik Balling and Henning Bahs, as well as Kjeld actor Poul Bundgaard took part in the premiere ceremony. The production was a great success for the Cottbus theater; all performances were sold out.

As a result of the great success, numerous other theaters in the new federal states added the piece to their program. At the Komödie Dresden, the three main roles were played by the well-known Zwinger Trio ( Tom Pauls as Egon, Jürgen Haase as Benny and Peter Kube as Kjeld), who also went on tour with this piece. In Bautzen, The Olsen Gang was on the program for fourteen years; the 133rd and final performance was given on December 29, 2012.
