The Princess and the Pea is a German fairy tale film by Alf Zengerling from 1953 based on the fairy tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen .
action
Prince Fridolin from the Kingdom of Immerfroh looked all over the world for a princess he liked, but found none because he had something to complain about in all of them. On a rainy night a pretty princess knocked on the castle gate and asked for shelter. Soaked as she is, the court doesn't quite believe that she is a princess. So the chief steward devises a ruse to find out whether the girl is actually a princess or not: All the blankets, pillows and mattresses that can be found in the castle are fetched and stacked on a bed. A pea is placed underneath. When the princess complained the next morning about lying on something hard, proof of her origins was provided. Because only a real princess can be that sensitive. She agrees to take Prince Fridolin as her husband and a marriage is arranged.
