Ellen Plessow

Ellen Plessow (actually: Helene Wiemuth , née Penning ; born January 12, 1891 in Oldenburg ; † September 2, 1967 in Berlin ) was a German actress .

Life

The daughter of a pharmacist completed her acting training at the Hanover Conservatory and made her debut in 1910 at the New Theater in Mainz . In the following year she was already on stages in Berlin. Also active in the film medium since the 1920s, she initially played mostly comical or bizarre roles in German silent films .

After the end of the war, she continued to work as an actress at Berlin theaters and in numerous East German DEFA feature films, mostly in the roles of older women. Her best-known film tasks include the literary film adaptation of Corinna Schmidt , the DEFA fairy tale film The Brave Little Tailor or the Lessing film adaptation of Emilia Galotti .

In the first years after 1945 she briefly managed the Spremberg branch of the Volksbühne in Brandenburg.
