The Rixdorf Singers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rixdorfer singers were active in the 1960s and 1970s West German singing group to the nostalgic interpretation of contemporary German pop songs of the Empire and the Weimar Republic (among others by Paul Lincke , Walter Kollo , Bruno Balz , Fritz laborers-Beda or Robert Gilbert ) specialized in potpourriform . The cast included Karl Golgowsky , Hans-Joachim Kipka , Kurt Stephan and Richard Gatermann. In Rixdorf it was a former district of Berlin, which in 1912 Neukölln was renamed and once had a reputation as a sleazy entertainment area with many dance halls.

In the period from 1963 to 1972 five regular long-playing records were released by Phonogram and Philips Phonographische Industrie (both now part of Universal Music Group ), and then until 1984 some best-of albums. The musical accompaniment on the individual albums came from contemporary bands such as B. Béla Sanders and his dance orchestra or the William Greihs dance orchestra .

Arrangement and sound

The arrangement and instrumentation were mostly in the context of faster jazz , swing and mood hits with a tempo that not infrequently required experienced dancers; the voice intonation was less nasal than, for example, today with Max Raabe .

In terms of sound, arrangement and mood, the recordings by the Rixdorf singers were very similar to the contemporary, commercially successful soundtrack of the English feature film Die reckless men in their flying boxes from 1965 (single: Those magnificent men in their flying machines , or in the German film version Ja, we are real men ).

Commercial win

The first five numbered EPs by the Rixdorf singers, which were released in 1960, reached the highest position 17 and stayed in the German top 20 for a total of 20 weeks.

In 1963, these five potpourri EPs became part of the Do You Remember? - 50 hits from the past combined into one long-playing record under the same name, which now reached number 8 in the German album charts and has been around for two and a half years, i.e. H. stayed in the charts from mid-1963 to the end of 1965 and thus a total of 96 weeks, 12 weeks of which in the top 10, with which the Rixdorf singers had reached 26th place in the West German longseller after being on the chart in weeks; At the end of 1963, the debut album was 12th among the albums sold in Germany during the year, and at the end of the following year 1964 it was still 22nd in terms of annual sales and 48th among longsellers in 1964.

With the respectable success that lasted over two years until the end of 1965 as a stable long seller and in the full-year sales category, four regular long-playing records were added between 1966 and 1972 when sales of the debut album waned, followed by three best-of albums by 1984.
