The Toy Factory (original title Some Assembly Required ) is a Canadian television series for teenagers, which started on January 6, 2014 in Canada on YTV . The idea for the series came from Dan Signer , who is also the creator of the sitcom Mr. Young and the Disney Channel series ANT: Achtung Natur-Talente .

The 14-year-old teenager Jarvis Raines is given a chemistry kit for Christmas that half destroys his parents' house. The court then decides that with immediate effect he will be the new chairman of the toy company Knicknack Toys, which manufactured the chemical construction kit. In this position, he hires a few teenagers to run the company and develop new products with them.

In May 2013 the casting call for Some Assembly Required was called. In November the series was announced with 26 episodes. In order to attract attention, a corresponding online game was published before the series start on January 6, 2014. A budget of $ 250,000 is available for the social media strategy. The series is filmed in Burnaby , British Columbia, Canada . The second season was filmed from August 11, 2014 and aired from January 5, 2015. The third season ran from March 14 to June 6, 2016.

In Germany, the first season was released in a synchronized version with the title Die Spielzeugfabrik on June 19, 2015 on the streaming portal Netflix .
