The independents (you) are a party in the Principality of Liechtenstein . It was founded in February 2013.

history

The Independents were founded in 2013 by Harry Quaderer after he left the Patriotic Union . They ran for the first time in the 2013 state election , in which they became the third-strongest party with a result of 15.3 percent and four seats, behind the FBP and the VU , but ahead of the Free List . As a result, four candidates made it straight to the Liechtenstein state parliament , to which a total of 25 members belong.

In the 2017 state elections , the independents were able to increase their share of the vote by 3.1 percentage points to 18.4 percent and win a mandate.

In August 2018, Erich Hasler was expelled from the party and from the state parliamentary group after differences of opinion. As a result, Herbert Elkuch and Thomas Rehak also left the party. The independents thus shrank to two mandates in the state parliament and lost their parliamentary group status. The three resigned MPs formed the “New Fraction” (NF) and founded the Democrats for Liechtenstein Party (DPL).

From 2015 to 2019, the independents were each represented by one member in the municipal councils of three Liechtenstein municipalities . Since 2019 the party has only been represented in Schaan 's municipal council.

The Independents have been publishing a party newspaper with the title “hoi du” since 2013 . It appears irregular.

Positions

The Independents do not see themselves as a classic party that follows the guidelines of a party leadership or ideology. According to their own account, in their political work they feel primarily obliged to Article 57 of the Constitution of the Principality of Liechtenstein. There it says: "The members of the state parliament vote only according to their oath and their convictions" and vow to "promote the welfare of the fatherland to the best of their knowledge and belief, regardless of secondary considerations".

In economic terms, the independents take liberal positions, oppose increasing regulation and advocate streamlining state structures. You advocate strengthening direct democracy and direct elections to the government. The latter has so far been elected by the state parliament and appointed by the head of state, the prince.

The independents are critical of the EU refugee policy. State parliament member Harry Quaderer stated in a contribution: "The EU, led by Merkel-Germany, seems incapable of exercising its influence in the Middle East and working towards peace. And what does the EU bureaucracy do instead: It works a refugee quota mechanism. "

The independents advocate a reduction in electricity prices for the Liechtenstein power plants . You are critical of the annual expenditure of CHF 15 million for the University of Liechtenstein , as 90% of the students and 90% of the employees are not Liechtenstein citizens.
