occupation

The glittering shrimp (original title: Les crevettes pailletées ) is a French comedy by Maxime Govare and Cédric Le Gallo from 2019 about a gay water polo team that is preparing for the Gay Games in Croatia with their new coach .

action

The vice swimming world champion Matthias Le Goff (Nicolas Gob) made a homophobic statement during a TV interview that caused great outrage. His association then decides that from now on Matthias should train the gay water polo team "Die glitzernden Shrimp". The aim is to make the group competitive for the Gay Games in Croatia. Matthias quickly realized, however, that the "prawns" are not really interested in winning, but primarily about having fun together. At the same time, however, Matthias gets closer to his estranged daughter, who values the men's community spirit.

criticism

Nathalie Simon writes in Le Figaro that Maxime Govare and Cédric Le Gallo make us laugh and move us with their comedy. She describes the film as a well-functioning hymn to tolerance. In the French edition of the lifestyle magazine GQ, Alexandre Lazerges positions the film between the British comedy All or nothing , the Italian sports film Water Polo and Communism and the queer Australian musical tragicomedy Priscilla - Queen of the Desert . He describes the film as funny and touching.

publication

The film premiered on January 19, 2019 at the French comedy film festival L'Alpe-d'Huez Film Festival. It opened in cinemas in France on May 8, 2019. The German premiere of the film took place on August 26, 2019 as part of the queer film festival in Berlin and Munich.
