The nine deadly sins is the only album by the rapper Visa Vie to date . It was released on June 12, 2009 on the Flavamatic label and distributed by Rough Trade .

Emergence

While Visa Vie was graduating from high school, a rapper friend asked her to speak in for his album. Afterwards it turned out that the piece in question was missing four lines, which is why she was persuaded by him to fill them in with a rap on her part. This gave her the motivation to start her own rap career. In 2008, work began on her debut album, which was initially planned as a demo release. She worked on The Nine Deadly Sins for a total of ten months . The album was finally released on June 12, 2009 on the Flavamatic label.

Recordings and music style

Producers on the album were MecsTreem, Phylo (Da Flexiblez), Shawn (FUA), Danito, Carpe Diem, Matti Bye , Dra-Q . Guest rappers are Luke 27, Carpe Diem, Reatsch, S. Sanchez, She-Raw and Dra-Q. Musically, the album offers classic hip-hop beats as well as elements from drum and bass , reggae and classical piano pieces.

On the cover, nine photos of Visa Vie can be seen almost in a semicircle, showing her with different hairstyles and objects in her hand. Each stands for a "deadly sin": fornication, self-destruction, deception, fear, stupidity, violence, indifference, greed and jealousy. In the case of the portrait, which is supposed to stylize “stupidity”, for example, she holds a copy of the picture in both hands; in the case of “violence” she is shown with a gun and a knife in her hand.

Above these nine portraits, the lettering “ViSA Vie” can be seen in white letters with a black border and black “pressure spots”, and the album title “Die NEUN TODSÜNDEN” (Die NEUN TODSÜNDEN) is arranged under the photos in an almost pyramid shape. The background consists of a gray concrete or stone wall in which the number “9” has been carved six times.

Texts and style

Stylistically, The Nine Deadly Sins can be classified as a concept album, since the "Deadly Sins" shown on the cover also form the song title. The texts have less to do with the actual biblical deadly sins , only greed and arrogance (as a bonus track) are identical to those of the Catechism of the Catholic Church , otherwise they were freely chosen.

In stupidity , the artist's view of the continuing dulling through television is sharply criticized. Several celebrities are directly attacked, including Britt , Jürgen Drews , Lady Bitch Ray and Kader Loth . Reference is also made to Marcel Reich-Ranicki and the scandal he caused at the 2008 German TV Prize .
