Diederich Hinrichsen (born February 17, 1939 in Nuremberg ) is a German mathematician . He is a scientist in the field of systems theory .

Life

Diederich Hinrichsen studied mathematics , literature , philosophy and economics in Hamburg from 1958 to 1965 .

In 1966 he received his doctorate from the University of Erlangen under the direction of Heinz Bauer . His most important research area at that time was abstract potential theory with a special focus on extensions of the Cauchy- Weil theorem to include the Choquet margin. After research stays in Paris and Hamburg , he went to Havana , where he helped set up the Faculty of Mathematics. After being appointed to Bielefeld , he became professor of mathematics at the University of Bremen .

Together with Hans W. Knobloch, Hinrichsen established the areas of mathematical systems theory and control theory in Germany. He was founding director of the Institute for Dynamic Systems at the University of Bremen with a focus on finite and infinite dimensional linear systems , stochastic dynamic systems and nonlinear dynamics . As head of the group for linear systems theory, he succeeded in establishing the institute internationally together with Ludwig Arnold, Hans-Friedrich Münzner, Heinz-Otto Peitgen and Peter Richter .

After his retirement in Germany, he taught at the Carlos III University in Madrid for some time .
