Diepkloof is a district of Soweto , which in turn is part of the metropolitan municipality City of Johannesburg in South Africa .
geography
The Diepkloof township settlement is located around eleven kilometers southwest of central Johannesburg. In 2011 the district officially had 95,537 inhabitants. It belongs to Region D of the City of Johannesburg, which includes all of Soweto.
Diepkloof is located in the northeast of Soweto. To the west is the Orlando East district .
history
The district was founded in 1959 as a settlement for blacks , especially for the resettled residents of the Alexandra township settlement north of Johannesburg . Before that, the Diepkloof farm was located there . The name comes from Afrikaans and means "deep gorge". In 1963 Diepkloof was merged with numerous other settlements for blacks to form Soweto.

Diepkloof is connected to the M68 (Motorway 68), M70 and M83 roads. The National Route 1 (N1) affected Diepkloof in the southeast and east, the National Route 12 branches off from the N1 at Diepkloof. There are no train stations in Diepkloof.
Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital
In the south of Diepkloof is the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital , which is considered the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere.
