Lucas Radebe (born April 12, 1969 in Diepkloof , Soweto ) is a former South African football player .

Career

Lucas Radebe, nicknamed The Chief, played in Bloemfontein when he was a teenager in South Africa . He began his career in 1991 with the South African flagship club, the Kaizer Chiefs in Johannesburg . For the 1994/95 season he moved to the English Premier League at Leeds United , where he ended his career after the 2005/06 season.

Radebe played his first international game for South Africa in 1992. In 1996 he won the Africa Cup together with South Africa and in 1998 and 2002 he represented the South African national team as captain at the World Cup in France and Japan / South Korea . In 2002 he made his comeback after a two-year knee injury.
