Dieter Enders
Dieter Enders (born March 17, 1946 in Butzbach , Hessen; † June 29, 2019 ) was a German chemist and professor at the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen .
Live and act
Enders studied chemistry and obtained his doctorate in 1975 with Dieter Seebach at the University of Giessen . After a stay at Harvard University with Nobel Prize winner Elias James Corey Jr. , he was appointed professor at the University of Bonn . From 1985 he headed the Institute for Organic Chemistry at RWTH Aachen University .
Dieter Enders is one of the pioneers in the field of stereoselective synthesis , especially the diastereoselective carbon-carbon linkages using " Enders reagent " [( S ) - (-) - 1-amino-2-methoxymethylpyrrolidine (SAMP)], a derivative of the amino acid ( S ) - proline . This is important for the development of new active ingredients, such as pharmaceuticals , pesticides or insect pheromones , since the biological activity of the enantiomers is usually different. Enders achieved success with the synthesis of a bark beetle pheromone, which can be used to trap bark beetles in an environmentally friendly way and en masse.
Awards
Enders has received numerous honors and awards, including the Prize of the University of Giessen, the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 1993 , the Yamada Prize (Japan) and the Max Planck Research Prize for Chemistry in 2000 . In 2008 he received the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award from the American Chemical Society. In 2012 he received the ERC Advanced Grants of the European Research Council (ERC), endowed with 2.5 million euros . From 2007 he was a member of the Leopoldina . The Academy of Sciences in Göttingen , he belonged to as a corresponding member. He was awarded the Karl Ziegler Guest Professorship by the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in 2013 . In 2014 he received the Ryōji Noyori Prize from the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry Japan (SSOCJ). In 2010 he received the Robert Robinson Award .
