Dieter Heistermann

Dieter Heistermann (born September 30, 1936 in Bielefeld , † October 23, 2010 in Beverungen ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the German Bundestag .

Live and act

Heistermann attended elementary and vocational school and in 1946 joined the Socialist Youth of Germany - The Falcons . Here he was last subdistrict chairman of Bielefeld. From 1951 to 1954 he did an apprenticeship as a toolmaker . He worked in his profession for another three years, joined the SPD in 1957 and volunteered in the local Calvinenfeld club. In 1958 he became a full-time second district secretary and in 1962 full-time in the Bielefeld SPD. From 1963 to 1980 he was managing director for the Höxter / Warburg subdistrict and participated in the establishment and founding of local associations.

From 1964 to 1981 he was a member of the Höxter district council , including chairman of the parliamentary group from 1970 . From 1975 to 1981 he was a member of the Landscape Assembly Westphalia-Lippe.

In 1980 he moved into the German Bundestag, where he immediately became a member of the Defense Committee , and since 1992 he has also been its vice-chairman. From 1991 to 1996 he was chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalia regional group in the SPD parliamentary group. In 1998 he left the Bundestag.

Heistermann was also an election observer at the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and a member of the Board of Directors of Sparkasse Höxter, of the Board of Directors and the Savings Bank Advisory Board of the Provincial Fire and Life Insurance in Münster and of the Advisory Board of Westfälische Ferngas AG based in Dortmund (WFG, now part of RWE). From 1975 to 1981 he was also a member of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Assembly, since 1979 a member of the VfB Beverungen sports club (1984–1992 also its chairman) and since 1999 chairman of the AWO district association Höxter.

Heistermann was married to Edeltraud Heistermann and had three children.
