Dieter Pries (born February 8, 1952 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Striker Dieter Pries started at VfL Herford at the age of eight and went through all youth teams there. In 1970 he moved to the national league club SV Ennigloh 09 and was top scorer there . In 1972 he moved to regional division Arminia Bielefeld , who had to be relegated after the Bundesliga scandal . For Bielefeld, he played a total of 41 games in the then second-rate Regionalliga West until 1974 , scoring six goals and helping his team to qualify for the 2nd Bundesliga, which was newly created in 1974 .

At the same time, his professional career ended abruptly when Arminia's new coach Rudi Faßnacht Pries caught drinking an Alster in a pub .

Faßnacht struck Pries from the squad; a move to DJK Gütersloh failed because of the transfer fee . Pries then went back to the amateur camp and played for FC Gohfeld , Bünder SV , FC Gütersloh , SuS Wulferdingsen , BV Stift Quernheim and again for Bünder SV. At the same time, he worked as an electrician and took early retirement in 2010 .

Pries is married with two children and a granddaughter.
