Dieter Schubert (born May 15, 1929 in Görlitz , † November 11, 2008 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Dieter Schubert took part in World War II as a soldier in 1945 . After the war he worked in forestry . He completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith and was active as a boxer and sports teacher in the early 1950s . He later made journalistic articles for the Junge Welt and Neue Berliner Illustrierte . From 1968 he was a freelance writer and journalist . In 1979 Schubert was expelled from the GDR Writers' Association along with other critical authors ; At the end of 1989 he was rehabilitated. He last lived in Berlin.

Dieter Schubert was the author of novels , short stories , children's books , television scripts and radio plays .

Dieter Schubert was a member of the GDR Writers' Association from 1968 to 1979; after reunification he was a member of the West German and from 1995 also of the East German PEN center from 1991 . In 1968 he received the Hans Marchwitza Prize and in 1990 a work grant for Berlin writers.
