Dieter Steinhilber

Dieter Steinhilber (* 1959 ) is a German pharmacist and university professor. He became known through several non-fiction books and taking over the presidency of the German Pharmaceutical Society in 2012.

Career

Steinhilber studied pharmacy at the University of Tübingen , where he graduated with a doctorate in 1987 . His dissertation dealt with determining and influencing the release of leukotriene and lipoxin from human granulocytes . This was followed by a stay abroad as a post-doc at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm from 1989 to 1991 . In 1994 he completed his habilitation and in 1995 was appointed Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Since 1999 he has been Director of the Institute for Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University, and from 1999 to 2000 he was also Dean of the Department of Biochemistry, Pharmacy and Food Chemistry. From 2003 he became a member of the board of directors of the Center for Drug Research, Development and Safety (ZAFES) at Goethe University.

Together with his professor colleagues Theo Dingermann and Manfred Schubert-Zsilavecz , Steinhilber founded the Frankfurt Pharmacy School Association in 2003 . He belongs to the board of trustees of Dr. Hilmer Foundation to promote research in the pharmaceutical field , which awards doctoral grants.
