Dieter Boots
Dieter Ferdinand Stiefel (born April 21, 1946 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian economic historian.
Life
Dieter Stiefel completed his primary school education in Burghausen (Germany) and then did an apprenticeship in the hospitality industry. From 1968 he studied at the University of World Trade in Vienna, where he obtained a doctorate in social and economic sciences in 1974. From 1974 to 1978 he also studied history at the University of Vienna , where he obtained a relevant doctorate.
After his apprenticeship, Stiefel worked in the tourism industry in several countries, from 1973 to 1988 he worked as an assistant professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 1981 he was a Research Fellow at Robinson College, Cambridge University , England. In 1986 he completed his habilitation in social and economic history with a thesis on the effects of the global economic crisis on Austria. In 1989 he was Research Fellow at the Center for European Studies at Harvard University , and in 2000 Research Fellow at the Institute for European Studies at the University of California, Berkeley . From 1993 he was a full professor for social and economic history at the University of Vienna.
