Artistic creation

During his studies, Dietmar Brixy's interest increasingly shifted from the plastic to the painterly. His acquaintance with American action painting and the technique of dripping should have a lasting impact on his art. Brixy developed an unmistakably unique style of oil painting. He became known for his pastose material pictures, which are always based on an action painting surface. By means of layered painting with brushes and hands and a lot of peeling off with painting knives or spatulas, he creates an impasto image world that extends into space, which represents a tightrope walk between informal art , expressive painting and figuration.

The starting point of his visual world of haptic quality is nature, the view of plants and flowers, e.g. B. on iris flowers, olive trees and palm trees, ginkgo trees and bamboo bushes, fig and citrus trees. Brixy's focal point in the formal discussion is the handling of color, its materiality and aesthetic effect. The color application varies from dense-opaque to delicately-transparent.

"Occasionally the color folds up in bulges to form haptic islands of color. Sometimes branches seem to protrude into the picture and form leaves, then again the delicate outlines of flowers protrude from the mist of color. Picture elements like these cross the fine line from abstraction to figuration, then Forms emerge from the energy of an originally shapeless color material - sometimes still fleeting, sometimes already clearly recognizable.
