Dietmar Eifler (materials scientist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dietmar Eifler (born September 13, 1949 ) is a German materials scientist . His main research areas are fatigue strength , joining technology and ultrasonic welding .

Life and career

Eifler studied general mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). His scientific career was largely shaped by his doctoral supervisor and mentor Eckard Macherauch . In 1981 Eifler presented his dissertation on the subject of inhomogeneous deformation phenomena under vibration loading of a differently heat-treated steel of type 42 CrMo 4 . He then took over the management of the fatigue strength laboratory at the Institute for Materials Science I (IWK) at the University of Karlsruhe.

In 1991, Eifler completed his habilitation and was granted the license to teach "Materials Science" at the University of Karlsruhe. From 1991 he taught at the University of Essen . Eifler has held the chair for materials science at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern since 1994 . He also teaches as a visiting professor at Fukuoka University in Japan.

Eifler works as an expert nationally and internationally. In 2002 he was appointed to the technology council of the government of Rhineland-Palatinate . On November 26, 2008, Eifler was awarded the Academy Prize of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate for "his wide-ranging basic research in the field of materials science and his outstanding skills in training and motivating students".

Eifler has been a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences since 2009 .
