Dietmar Helm

Dietmar Helm (* 1954 ) is a former German water polo player , sports official and social worker .

Life

From 1970 to 1988 Dietmar Helm played water polo at SV Iserlohn 1895 , then three seasons at the English West London Penguin Swimming and Water Polo Club and from 1982 to 1990 in the German national water polo team . In 1992, Helm ended his active career as a water polo player.

After that he was mainly active as a manager and functionary in water polo. 1997 Helm became team manager of the German national water polo team . From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the executive committee of the North Rhine-Westphalia Swimming Association , where he was responsible for public relations . In 2007 Helm was appointed manager for marketing and media in the water polo committee of the German Swimming Association .

After finishing his sports career , Helmut , who has been working as a social worker in the youth and social affairs department of the city of Hagen since 1982 , campaigned for social projects in youth sports on a regional level and campaigned for the local water polo sport . In 2001, for example, his experience essentially contributed to the success of the European Youth Water Polo Championship in Hohenlimburg . Helm's experiences in the 1990s with the rehabilitation and integration of migrants and young people with the help of sport also led to the project Sport instead of violence . This culminated in 2007 in the founding of the Hagen association Aktion Sport instead of violence eV with the cooperation partner Universum Box-Promotion .

Awards

For his commitment to the water polo sport, Helmut Diegel was presented with the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany on June 8, 2009 by the then District President of the Arnsberg District .

Helm is also active as a musician and has so far released four instrumental electronic albums, Water Polo Games on the Way to Seoul (2019), Asian Live (2019), Hot Music for Cool People (2020) and Tomorrow (2020).
