Dietmar Rieth

Dietmar Rieth (born February 3, 1958 in Kinheim ) is a German politician of the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party .

Life and career

After graduating from secondary school in 1972, Rieth learned the profession of electrical installer in Wittlich (Eifel). After obtaining his technical college entrance qualification in 1978, he began studying electrical power engineering at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences , which he successfully completed in 1982 with a degree in engineering. In the same year he took up a job as a sales engineer at the converter and transformer works (WTW) in Wirges , three years later he switched to the Neuwied public utility company , where he was responsible as a planning engineer for energy supply. In addition, he was fire chief at the Neuwied fire department. After his time as a member of the state parliament, he was a member of the board of a small stock corporation and managing director of various limited liability companies, responsible for project development, the processing of wind farm projects that had already started, and support for wind farms that had already been implemented, as well as a consultant for energy-related issues. He has been the owner of the Mittelrhein Energy Agency since 2005, and has held a 90% stake since 2009 after being converted into a GbR. Since January 1st, 2017 he is the sole owner of the company Dietmar Rieth [Energieagentur Mittelrhein], which as legal successor of the GbR is responsible for all previous services and offers further new services in the area of ​​the safety of electrical systems as a VDS expert.

Rieth is the father of two children.

politics

In 1988 Rieth became a member of the Greens, in 1992 he took over the post of spokesman in the Neuwied district association . For several years he was a member of the Neuwied City Council and sat on various advisory boards and committees. From 1991 to 2001 he was a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament , in which from 1993 he held the office of deputy chairman of the Greens. In the state parliament he was responsible for the political areas of energy, economic, media and nuclear policy as well as the partnership with Rwanda . He was also the coordinator of the “Energy Policy Advice” at the federal level from 1993 to 2001. Rieth is currently calling for a rethinking of local government reform with the ex-politician Alfred Beth (CDU) , who is also from Kinheim .

Dietmar Rieth has been the recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon since November 2002, awarded by Federal President Johannes Rau on the proposal of Prime Minister Kurt Beck .
