Dietmar Sengewald

Dietmar Sengewald (born September 28, 1953 ) was a football player for the GDR upper division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena from 1970 to 1981 .

Athletic career

Sengewald received his training to become a soccer player in the company sports community Aufbau im Ostthüringischen Triebes . At the age of almost 17 he was delegated to the Thuringian football club FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 1970 . There he was initially employed in the junior division. In 1974, the now 21-year-old, 1.82 m tall midfielder was first used in the Jena league team. Although FC Carl Zeiss Jena was one of the top teams in the GDR league at the time, Sengewald didn't win his first title until 1980. On May 17, 1980, he was substituted on in the final of the GDR soccer cup in the 72nd minute and secured the final victory over FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt with his goal in the 97th minute to make it 3-1 .

Sengewald completed his last season in the GDR league in 1981/82. There are different statements about his departure from FC Carl Zeiss Jena at the age of 28. While in the special edition for the football season 1982/83 of the German Sportechos you can read that Sengewald “ended his competitive sporting career”, Leske writes in his encyclopedia of GDR football: “Dietmar Sengewald left FC for political reasons that are not known Carl Zeiss Jena excluded. ”(P. 413). In his nine league years in Jena, Sengewald was called up in 191 competitive games, 139 games in the GDR Oberliga, 25 games in the GDR Cup competition and in 27 European Cup games. Although mostly used defensively, he scored 30 goals for Jena. He was also used three times in the GDR junior national team.

After his “competitive end” Sengewald played for a few years in the third-class Gera district league at BSG Chemie Schwarza . After he had finally ended his active football career, he worked as a coach for various football teams. His last positions were with SG 1. FC / Chemie Greiz , SV Elstertal Bad Köstritz, 1. FC Gera and SV 1924 Münchenbernsdorf . He is currently again a coach at SV Elstertal Bad Köstritz.
