Dietrich Boehler

Dietrich Böhler (born January 5, 1942 in Berlin-Karlshorst ) is a German philosopher and representative of the "Berlin discourse pragmatics", who is, among other things, about the Socratic dialogic justification and a motivational expansion of the discourse ethics , which on the one hand Karl-Otto Apel , on the other hand was initiated by Jürgen Habermas .

Dietrich Böhler studied philosophy, theology, politics, German and sociology in Tübingen, Hamburg and Kiel. In 1970 he was at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel with the text Metakritik der Marxsche ideology criticism. Prolegomena on a reflected criticism of ideology and 'theory-practice-mediation with Karl-Otto Apel doctorate. In 1981 he completed his habilitation at Saarland University with reconstructive pragmatics and hermeneutics . From 1969 to 1972 Böhler worked at the University of Saarland as an assistant at the chair of Karl-Otto Apels and since 1972 as an assistant professor. From 1975 he taught as a professor for social philosophy and philosophical foundations of education at theUniversity of Education Berlin . In 1980 and 1981 he led the " Funkkolleg practical philosophy / ethics" together with Apel . He is co-editor of the interdisciplinary research series Ethics and Business in Dialog . From 1981 to 2010 Böhler was Professor of Practical Philosophy, Ethics and Theory of Social Sciences at the Free University of Berlin .

His first major work is his Reconstructive Pragmatics , which is intended to provide a discourse-theoretical "introduction both to the social and cultural sciences as practical sciences as well as to the fundamentals of philosophy, especially practical philosophy". The second major work bears the title Bindingness from the Discourse and, after a tradition-critical introduction to philosophy (history), offers a justification for reflective dialogue and its application to the problems of responsibility for the future, as they arise above all in the permanent ecological crisis.

Böhler is a member of the International Scientific Committee of the International Scientific Center Karl-Otto Apel as well as the board of the Hans Jonas -Zentrum eV , which he founded at the Free University. He is the initiator and co-editor of the “Critical Complete Edition of the Works of Hans Jonas”.
