The Research Group Ethics and Business in Dialogue (EWD) is an interdisciplinary research project of the Hans Jonas Center at the Free University of Berlin . It was founded in 1992 by the philosopher Dietrich Böhler and the entrepreneurs Thomas Bausch and Thomas Rusche as well as other philosophers, entrepreneurs and economists with the aim of discussing questions of business ethics in a philosophical and practical way.

Work areas and organizational structure

The EWD was founded in 1992 following joint seminars by Dietrich Böhler and his then students Thomas Bausch and Thomas Rusche, both of whom were already entrepreneurs. The work of the group is committed to discourse ethics following Karl-Otto Apel . Their program describes the research group as follows:

“Intra- and interdisciplinary dialogues, exchange between science and practice, disputes about ethical principles and their application in business, clarification of the normative binding force of principles that 'we' have already made use of in thinking or in dialogue, and clarification of their tension economic rationality principles "

In addition, individual ethical aspects of the individual economic actors (such as managers or economic agents ) as well as questions of environmental ethics , Christian social ethics or the philosophical foundations of discourse ethics are discussed and criticized.

The research group holds regular scientific seminars and application-oriented colloquia . Well-known philosophers, entrepreneurs and politicians such as Karl Homann , Hans Jonas , Friedrich Kambartel , Matthias Kettner, Wolfgang Kuhlmann , Audun Øfsti , Johannes Rau , Gerhard Schröder , Gesine Schwan , Horst Steinmann , Peter Ulrich took part in the EWD's conferences, events and publications and Micha H. Werner.
