Dietrich Benner

Dietrich Benner (born March 1, 1941 in Neuwied ) is a German educational scientist . He is Emeritus Professor of General Education at the Humboldt University of Berlin .

Life

Benner attended the Görres-Gymnasium in Koblenz and studied philosophy, German studies, history and education at the universities of Bonn (1961–1962) and Vienna (1962–1965). In 1965 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Vienna under Erich Heintel with a study on Hegel and Marx. In 1965 he became a research assistant to Josef Derbolav at the Institute for Education at the University of Bonn . There he completed his habilitation in 1970 for the subject of educational science. In 1973 he accepted a position as a professor for educational science at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

After appointments at the Universities of Klagenfurt (1976) and Zurich (1977), Benner accepted an appointment at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1991, to which he has been an emeritus since 2009. From 2008 to 2013 he was Professor of Educational Science at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw , where he founded the Department for Theoretical Foundations of Education. He was visiting professor at the universities of Friborg, Zurich, Basel, Odense, Prague, Vienna and Hamburg, among others. His successor to the chair at Humboldt University is Malte Brinkmann.

Benner researches topics in general and systematic pedagogy, the theory of upbringing, education and schooling, general didactics and science didactics , the history of theory in educational science and reform pedagogy as well as modeling and testing religious and moral competence.
