Arno Forchert

Arno Forchert (born December 29, 1925 in Berlin ; † March 11, 2011 in Detmold ) was a German musicologist .

biography

Scientific career

Forchert studied music from 1947 to 1950 (majoring in piano) and then musicology at the Free University of Berlin . There he was with a thesis on the late work of 1957 Michael Praetorius doctorate . From 1956 to 1960 he headed the music teacher seminar at the John Petersen Conservatory in Berlin-Zehlendorf, and from 1960 he worked as a lecturer in music history at the church music school in Berlin-Spandau . From 1959 Forchert worked as a research assistant at the musicological institute of the Free University of Berlin , where he completed his habilitation in 1967 and taught until 1978. In 1971 he followed a call to the North West German Music Academy in Detmold for a position as a full professor of musicology. There he founded the Musicology Seminar in 1977 , which he headed until his retirement in 1991. In 1981 he moved to the University of Paderborn to transfer the musicology seminar in Detmold to a joint facility of the University of Paderborn and the Detmold Music Academy . From 1988 to 1997 he was President of the International Heinrich Schütz Society, which made him an honorary member. A commemorative publication edited by Gerhard Allroggen and Detlef Altenburg was published on his 60th birthday . Forchert died on March 11, 2011 in his house in Detmold.

Arno Forchert was married twice. His first marriage resulted in two sons. His first wife died before him. In his second marriage he was married until his death.
