Dietrich IV von Schönberg (* 1410 or 1411; † March 15, 1492 probably in Zeitz ) was rector of the University of Leipzig in 1465 and bishop of Naumburg from 1481 to 1492 .

origin

Dietrich IV. Came from the von Schönberg family , who repeatedly provided bishops in the dioceses of Naumburg and Meißen. He was the son of the knight Hans von Schönberg († 1448) on the Sachsenburg , councilor and court master of the elector Friedrich II. And Jutta, a born von Hirschfeld .

Life

Dietrich was canon in Naumburg since 1435. He studied at the University of Leipzig and was its rector in 1465 . Dietrich was canon in Meißen, provost in Bautzen and cathedral provost in Meißen. The accumulation of offices required the Pope's consent, which was conditional. As a bishop, Dietrich IV felt compelled as early as 1483 to have a coadjutor at his side. The later auxiliary bishop Heinrich zu Zeitz was preferred by the bishop, but the pope appointed his nephew Johann , who then also became his successor. As bishop, he continued the profitable business of silver mining on the Schneeberg. The bishop died after a long illness. Bronze parts of his tomb have been preserved in Naumburg Cathedral .
