Dietrich Edgar Katzenstein (born March 19, 1923 in Hamburg ; † September 10, 2008 there ) was a judge at the German Federal Constitutional Court from 1975 to 1987 .

Life

From 1943 on, Katzenstein studied law and theology at the universities of Hamburg , Freiburg and Mainz . After completing his studies and doctorate , Katzenstein joined the judiciary in Hamburg in 1954 . After a secondment to the Hamburg State Representation in Bonn until 1958. Katzenstein held various judicial functions, most recently as Landgerichtsdirektor in Hamburg and as a non-executive member of the Hamburg Constitutional Court operates before 1965 to 1975 as president of the Landeskirchenamt board Hamburg.

After his election as judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Katzenstein was a member of its first Senate from November 7, 1975 to November 16, 1987. His focus was on social and property rights, especially the principle of equality .

Dietrich Katzenstein was appointed honorary professor at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen in 1986. He was honored for his work with the Great Cross of Merit with Star and Shoulder Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
