Dietrich Mülder (forest scientist)

Dietrich Mülder (born September 25, 1906 in Hildesheim ; † June 27, 2000 ) was a German forest scientist and professor at the University of Göttingen .

Life

Mülder was the youngest son of the classical philologist Dietrich Mülder (1861–1947). Starting in the summer semester of 1925, he studied forest science at the University of Tübingen and, like his father, became a member of the Tübingen fraternity, Derendingia . He later switched to the forestry faculty of the University of Göttingen in Hannoversch Münden . There he received his doctorate in 1947 and completed his habilitation in 1950. He then held lectures on forest management and on the introduction to forest science. In 1955 Mülder received a Fulbright scholarship for a research stay in the USA. There he was offered a visiting professorship at the Chair of Silviculture at the University of California, Berkeley in 1956 . In 1958 he was finally appointed full professor. After returning to Germany, he initially took over the management of the Göttingen Monastery Forestry Office. From 1966 to 1974 he was director of the Institute for Forest Management at the University of Göttingen. In 1974 he retired.
