Peter von Baranoff
Peter Paul Alexander von Baranoff ( Russian : Пётр Петрович фон Баранов; born May 9, 1843 in Reval , † December 22, 1924 in Reval) was a noble born in the Baltic States and general of the cavalry in the Imperial Russian Army .
Life
Peter Paul began his military career in 1860 in the Imperial Russian Page Corps in Saint Petersburg . From 1861 he served as a cornet in the Guard - Uhlan - Regiment , the Empress Marija Aleksandrowna (1824-1865). In 1863 he took part in the campaign against the January uprising of the Poles and was promoted to Porutschik in 1865 . His next higher promotion was to Rittmeister in 1874 , from 1877 to 1878 he took part in the Russo-Ottoman War , which was then followed by promotion to Lieutenant Colonel . Before he was commander of the 3rd Sumschen Dragoon Regiment from 1890 to 1891, he was promoted to colonel in 1880 . At the same time he assumed command of the Uhlan Regiment of Empress Maria Fedorovna (1847-1928), he was given the rank of major general .
In 1897 he became the commander of the 1st Guard Cavalry Brigade and in 1898 retired from active military service. He then performed his full-time service at the tsar's court , was promoted to lieutenant general in 1900 and in 1902 was court master of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolayevich (1832–1909). From 1906 to 1907 he was a member of the Imperial Russian State Council and a supporter of the Octobrists . In 1909 he was appointed adjutant general to His Majesty Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918) and in 1911 appointed general of the cavalry . He retired from court service in 1914 and returned to Tallinn in 1917. He died on December 22, 1924 in Tallinn and was buried in the local Aleksander Nevsky Cemetery.

Origin and family
Peter Paul Alexander von Baranoff came from the Swedish-Russian noble family von Baranoff , who had settled in Livonia and Estonia in the middle of the 16th century . His father was the Russian Lieutenant General Peter Hermann von Baranoff, Herr auf Arroküll (1799–1871), who was married to the Tsarina's chambermaid , Baroness Marie Nicolay. Peter Paul married Olga Valerianovna Bibikova in 1882, widowed Boriova (1846–1933). Her daughter was Olga Petrovna von Baranoff (born February 1, 1883 in St. Petersburg).
