Dietrich Müller-Hillebrand
Dietrich ("Dieter") Müller-Hillebrand (until 1921 Dietrich Müller ; born February 17, 1902 in Dieuze , † June 13, 1964 in Paris ) was a German electrical engineer and university professor.
Life
Müller-Hillebrand was a son of the Prussian officer Herman August John Eustace Müller (1859-1914) and Catherine (Cate) Margaret Jane Seliger (1865-1949) and brother of Lieutenant General Burkhart Müller-Hillebrand . He attended the Augustinerschule Friedberg and studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt . From 1925 he worked in Berlin at Siemens-Schuckertwerke as a test field and development engineer. In 1931 he was at the Technical University of Berlin with a thesis about the influence of thunderstorms on electric lines to Dr.-Ing. PhD.
In 1934 he was appointed chief engineer, took over the management of the technical department of the switchgear and developed explosion-proof and firedamp-proof devices. In 1935 he married Astrid Bengtsson (* 1909), the daughter of sea captain Olof Bengtsson. The couple had two daughters.
In 1946, after the end of the Second World War, Müller-Hillebrand went to Sweden and managed the factory of Svenska Siemens AB in Stockholm . In 1957 the Uppsala Universitet appointed him full professor and head of the Institute for High Voltage Research .
Thunderstorm research was one of his most important scientific activities . His work helped to better protect people and buildings from lightning strikes .
