Dietrich Manicke

Dietrich Manicke (born October 29, 1923 in Wurzen ; † February 5, 2013 in Detmold ) was a German composer and music theorist .

Vita

From 1942 to 1947 Dietrich Manicke studied composition with Fidelio Finke and Gustav Mraczek at the State Academy for Music and Theater in Dresden . After completing his studies, he took on a teaching position there from 1948 to 1950. Between 1950 and 1955 he studied musicology in Berlin and Münster with a doctorate on Mozart's Magic Flute . From 1950 to 1953 he was a lecturer at the German University of Music in Berlin and from 1957 to 1960 he taught at the church music school in Spandau. In 1960 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold. From 1967 until his retirement in 1986, Manicke was professor for composition and composition at the Detmold University of Music . For his compositional work he received the “ Carl Maria von Weber Prize” from the city of Dresden and the “ Johann Wenzel Stamitz Prize” from the Artists' Guild .
