Dietrich Nasse

Dietrich Nasse (born November 5, 1860 in Bonn , † September 1, 1898 near Pontresina ) was a German surgeon.

Life

Dietrich Nasse was a son of the economist and politician Erwin Nasse and Hermine von Hogendorp. His grandfather was the internist and psychiatrist Christian Friedrich Nasse . From 1878 to 1882 he studied medicine in Bonn, Tübingen and Berlin. It was 1882 in Bonn with a thesis on the anatomy of lower worms ( earthworms ) for Dr. med is doing his doctorate. He then worked in Geneva for the pathologist Friedrich Wilhelm Zahn . From 1884 to 1886 he had a position as assistant to Johannes Orth at the pathological institute of the University of Göttingen. During this time he worked on arterial tuberculosis and the bacteriological findings in gastric mucosal necrosis.

In 1887 Nasse moved to the surgical university clinic in Berlin as assistant to Ernst von Bergmann . After his habilitation in surgery in 1893, he was appointed associate professor and state examiner for surgery in 1896 and took over the management of the polyclinic. During the Turkish-Greek War he went to Turkey for the Red Cross in 1897 and worked temporarily in the Yildiz Hospital in Constantinople . With the help of the recently discovered X-rays , he diagnosed gunshot wounds there. He received the offer to permanently lead the medical school of Constantinople, which he refused.

Nasse died single in an accident in Switzerland.

Act

During his time in Berlin, Nasse conducted research on clinical-surgical and pathological issues. He tried to find out the origin of lymph tumors, mixed tumors of the salivary glands, teratomas of the sacrum-coccyx region and cartilage-bone tumors. He also researched the development of abscesses that occurred after a gonorrhea due to amoebic infestation and joint inflammation.

Nasse dealt extensively with the clinical manifestations, routes of spread and tissue forms of sarcomas . In "The extirpation of the shoulder and its importance for the treatment of sarcomas" he described a radical treatment method for upper arm tumors. In this operation method of the arm were together with collarbone and shoulder blade deposed . For his surgery lessons he wrote a prestigious book on diseases of the foot, lower leg and knee joint area and a textbook on foot injuries and diseases.

Nasse was considered a new type of surgeon who had a scientific education and was able to apply methods of pathological anatomy and bacteriology in the field of surgery.
