Dietrich Plester

Dietrich Aloys Norbert Plester (born January 23, 1922 in Essen ; † October 18, 2015 ) was a German doctor.

Life

Dietrich Plester, son from the marriage of the physician Wilhelm Plester and Lore born. Oiepschlag, after completing his medical degree (1945 Dr. med. In Berlin), first completed a pharmacological training. After studying ethnography, he underwent specialist training with Horst Ludwig Wullstein at the Jung-Stilling Hospital in Siegen , a co-founder of tympanoplasty . In 1957 he completed his habilitation with Alf Meyer zum Gottesberge at the ENT clinic of the Düsseldorf Medical Academy in Düsseldorf , where he also set up the department for ear surgery as a senior physician. Here he became internationally known through the use of microsurgery.

In 1966, as the successor to Max Schwarz , he was offered the chair for ear, nose and throat medicine at the University of Tübingen, combined with the position of director of the ENT clinic at the University Hospital of Tübingen (UKT). He founded the Plester School of Ear Surgery . Together with A. Miehlke from Göttingen, he set up an international center for middle ear surgery and parotid surgery. In 1988 he retired and was succeeded by Hans-Peter Zenner . Plester was the author and editor of the standard work Atlas of Ear Surgery . Under his aegis, a. a. Werner Giebel, Jan Helms, Henning Heumann, Rainer Langnickel, Eberhard Steinbach, Michael Strohm. Other close employees were Helmut Breuninger, Henning Hildmann, Ernst Koburg and Klaus Jahnke.

He received numerous national and international honors. For his work he was u. a. honored as an honorary member of the Royal Society of Medicine and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and in 1988 the Federal Cross of Merit First Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1984 he has been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and numerous professional societies.
