Dietrich Schuchardt (born February 14, 1945 in Bergen on Rügen ) is a modern painter who is assigned to Surrealism .

His mother had fled from the Soviet Army from Western Pomerania and found shelter in the hospital in Bergen on Rügen . The hospital staff advised the mother to leave the child behind and continue to flee because the newborn would otherwise have no chance of survival in the very harsh winter. The mother refused and Dietrich Schuchardt survived.

The family first lived in Erfurt and then soon moved to Offenburg in Baden-Württemberg . Here Dietrich Schuchardt attended grammar school. For three years he did an apprenticeship as a graphic designer. He then served in the Navy for 18 months between 1965 and 1966.

In 1966 Schuchardt began training as an art teacher and started giving art lessons in 1969. In addition to teaching, he has since been a very productive artist. He sees Albrecht Dürer , Salvador Dalí , Joachim Patinir and Max Ernst as his role models .

Schuchardt's works are inspired by the nature that he experienced on his many travels, in particular by the chalk cliffs of Rügen and the nature of the Black Forest , which combine with human nature. The secret of arising and passing away, the human senses and techniques are part of his themes.

His painting technique includes drawings and gouaches , as well as copperplate engravings hand-colored with watercolors. In doing so, he works with a great deal of time and precision.

Dietrich Schuchardt is widely recognized as an important representative of the present day Surrealism, which is proven by his well over 100 solo exhibitions.
