Dilara Hashem
Dilara Hashem (also Dilara Hashim ; Bengali : দিলারা হাশেম , Dilārā Hāśem ; * 1936 ) is a Bengali radio editor and writer from Bangladesh .
Life
Hashem studied English at the University of Dhaka , where she completed her Master of Arts degree.
As a student , she began working for various radio stations . Hashem has worked in the editorial area at Radio Dhaka , at a news agency in Karachi , Pakistan and at the BBC . She then became a broadcast editor at VOA Bangla broadcast ( Voice of America in Bangladesh) in Dhaka, where she quickly made a career. Her longstanding feature programs "Matir Gan, Manusher Gan" ("Songs of the Soil, Songs of People" ), a series on popular country and folk music in the USA , and "Life in America" were very popular.
Hashem was also active as a singer of traditional Bengali folk songs and made appearances on radio and television in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Regardless of her involvement in radio, Hashem began her writing career, writing novels , poems and plays in the Bengali language. As a writer, she was recognized by the public and her work received good reviews. In her literary work she dealt critically with the politically unstable Bengali society; For example, her debut novel Ghar Mon Janala (1965) - a story about the struggle for existence of the middle class and their feelings of frustration - is one of the most important books of the 1960s in East Pakistan . The book was very successful and appeared in Russian in Moscow and, as one of the first Bangladeshi books, in Chinese in Beijing in 1996 .
Hashem has received several high literary awards and is considered one of the most important Bengali writers. She continues to work for VOA Bangla broadcast and, for example, hosted a radio broadcast about an event in Washington ( USA ) in the context of the weekly VOA series "Hello Washington" in February 2008 , at which Bengali society and culture as well as Bengali books were presented.
