Dingboche is a village ( VDC Khumjung ) in the Khumbu region of Nepal .
It is located in the Chukhung Valley of the Sagarmatha National Park at an altitude of 4,340 meters directly on the Imja Khola, a tributary to the Dudh Kosi . In Dingboche, potatoes are mainly grown. Since the 1980s, with the increase in tourism, a large number of lodges have sprung up. The place is a stopover for trekking tourists and mountaineers on the Mount Everest Trek or on the way to Island Peak .
Between Dingboche and Lobuche there is a “graveyard” for all the victims of the ascent of Mount Everest . Every dead person is paid their last respects with a so-called stone man , a pile of piled stones.
