from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dino Dvornik (born August 20, 1964 as Miljenko Dvornik in Split , SFR Yugoslavia , † September 7, 2008 in Zagreb , Croatia ) was a Croatian singer , actor and reality TV actor.

Life

Dvornik was the younger of two sons of the actor Boris Dvornik (1939-2008). Since August 1989 he was with Danijela, geb. Kuljiš, married to whom he had a daughter, Ella Dvornik. He died in 2008 of a combination of antidepressants and sedatives in his Zagreb apartment. He left behind his wife and a daughter.

Film career

Dvornik played together with his brother, Dean Dvornik, in the series Naše malo misto (1970s) at the side of his father, Boris Dvornik. Other roles in children's series and other films followed. His last film appearance dates back to 2004, when he played a singer (based on himself) in the film by the director Arsen A. Ostojić, Ta divna splitska noć .

Music career

In 1981, Dvornik and his brother Dean founded the band Kineski zid (Great Wall of China), which they named after the name of the building that the Dvornik family lived in Split. The band released an album that was also the first radio album in Croatia. Arguments and differences of opinion within the band, as well as little interest in the same, led to the fact that it disbanded shortly after the release of the record. Dino Dvornik's musical influences go back to James Brown , and Stevie Wonder .

When he performed at the Zagreb Festival in 1988, he received the award for best newcomer for his song Tebi pripadam (I belong to you). Before this performance, he had sent recorded material to the Jugoton record company . In the same year Dvornik produced his first album, the self-titled Dino Dvornik , in the studio of Nenad Vilović in collaboration with Gibonni , Goran Kralj and Dragan Lukić Luky . It contained u. a. the songs Zašto pravis slona od mene (Why do you make an elephant out of me), Ti si mi u mislima (You are on my mind), Ljubav se zove imenom tvojim (Love bears your name). In 1989 the album Kreativni nered (Creative Chaos) followed, of which 750,000 copies were sold.

Dino Dvornik introduced native music to Yugoslav discotheques, which at that time mainly played foreign music. His third album followed in 1993, Priroda i društvo (" Community Studies "). However, it went unnoticed due to the chaos of war in the country. A year later, his first live album, Live in Munich , recorded with the Songkillers as an accompanying band, was released , which again recorded better sales figures and convinced the critics. In 1997 his most successful album, Enfant terrible, followed . In the same year he received Croatia's highest musical award, the Porin , for the song contained on this album, Afrika , and another for the album itself. He received another Porin in 1998 for his best of album Vidi ove pisme (See this song ). In 1999 the album Big Mamma was released , which, like Svicky from 2002, failed on the one hand with the music critics and also sold poorly. Between these two releases, Dvornik received the Zlatna ptica (Golden Bird) award from Croatia Records in 2000 for sales of more than 60,000 records.

In his last years Dino Dvornik played gigs at home and abroad, but mainly in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. He put his focus on working as a DJ in clubs. His last album Pandorina kutija (Pandora's Box) was about to be released. A first single from the album, Hipnotiziran (Hypnotized) was released in the summer of 2008. Bizarrely, Dvornik appeared in the video for this song in a red tailcoat and top hat and in the same came out of a coffin. According to his record company, Dancing Bear , the album should hit the market in October 2008.

Reality show

The reality show Dvornikovi ("The Dvorniks") is a show that was created in 2006 based on the model of the program The Osbournes . The audience saw a not so perfect, but rather funny family life of the Croatian "King of Funk", his rebellious daughter Ella and his quick-witted wife Danijela, who tried again and again to bring order to the chaos of the Dvornik family. The cameras filmed 24 hours a day and also accompanied Dino Dvornik at his concerts.
