The Dipluridae are small to medium-sized spiders with extremely elongated spinnerets . They are also called double-tailed spiders in German . The family comprises 26 genera and 199 species (as of December 2018).
The Diplurida family was created by Eugène Simon (1848–1924) in 1889. Almost all animals in this family build funnel nets that end in a living room lined with web. Only Diplura garleppi has no elongated spinnerets and probably does not weave funnel nets either , but lives in tubes lined with silk.
The Dipluridae colonize tropical and subtropical climatic zones on all continents, except Europe.
