Dirk Ahlers (* 1937 in Bielefeld ) is the chairman of the supervisory board and the largest single shareholder of Frosta AG. He and other members of the Ahlers family together hold 58% of the company, with sales of EUR 349 ​​million (2007) the German market leader for frozen foods .

Ahlers is the son of the Herford-based clothing manufacturer Adolf Ahlers , who was involved in German deep-sea fishing in 1953 with the shipping company “Maria von Jever” and in 1957 put his first sea freezer and stern catcher into operation with the traditional name “Sagitta”.

His son Felix Ahlers is the company's CEO and his daughter Friederike Ahlers is in charge of public relations. Dirk Ahlers is an experienced pilot and at the age of 82 still privately flies a Cessna CitationJet .

Dirk Ahlers obtained the general university entrance qualification in 1957 at the humanistic Friedrichs-Gymnasium Herford .

In 1962 he founded Frosta Tiefkühl-Kontor GmbH in Bremerhaven , which he expanded from a small trading company to one of the largest European producers of frozen food.

In 1963 he acquired the sea fish wholesaler F. Schottke (founded in 1884) and expanded it into a specialist company for frozen fish products. In 1964, the company moved to Hall 18 in the fishing port and began producing frozen fish there, for which the first deep-freeze warehouse had to be built in 1978.

In 1976 production was expanded to include frozen vegetables, fruit and ready meals.

In the 1980s, the company bought Hall 19 from Fischereihafen-Betriebsgesellschaft (FBG) and Hall 20 from Oetker and finally took over Hochseefischerei Nordstern AG in 1984 , with which it also acquired a stake in Deutsche Fischfang-Union GmbH in Cuxhaven a little later .

In 1988 Ahlers brought the companies Schottke and Frosta into Frosta AG, of which he is the chairman of the supervisory board and largest single shareholder to this day.

Dirk Ahlers was involved with the CDU Hamburg for many years . a. as deputy chairman of the CDU of the Blankenese district . His concern was to strengthen internal party democracy. In November 2006, Ahlers and other Christian Democrats from Blankenese failed with an application that wanted to give CDU members more rights when proposing citizenship candidates.
