Dirk Amrein

Dirk Amrein (* 1969 in Rheinfelden ) is a German trombonist and improvisation musician .

Amrein studied at the University of Music in Basel with Heinrich Huber and at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne with Michel Becquet . He also took private lessons with Denis Wick in London. He received master classes and further instruction from Joseph Alessi , Branimir Slokar, Albert Mangelsdorff and Malte Burba .

Amrein played in the Collegium Novum Zurich and other orchestras under the direction of Claudio Abbado , Riccardo Chailly , Daniel Harding , Neville Marriner , Franz Welser-Möst , András Schiff , Eliahu Inbal and Pierre Boulez . He has given numerous world premieres as a soloist and chamber musician. Since 2009 he has toured internationally with the pianist Jürg Henneberger.

He also worked with the Swiss Jazz Orchestra , Jim McNeely , George Gruntz , Pepe Lienhard , Steamboat Switzerland and the Swiss Army Big Band . In the field of improvisation music and multimedia performances, he worked with Marc Yeats and Wolfgang Froese .

He took part in festivals such as the Lucerne Festival , the Proms in London, the Wiener Festwochen , Days for New Music Zurich, Zürcher Festwochen , Festival de la Cité de Lausanne , World Music Days, Musikmonat Basel, Festival del Mare Huatulco (Mexico) .
