Malte Burba (born May 13, 1957 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German brass theorist, musician, composer and university professor.

Life

He comes from a family of musicians and studied trumpet , piano , musicology and music education. The additional study of phonetics and medicine gave him important insights and impulses for the development of a new brass method. Burba's method, which for the first time precisely defined the physical characteristics of brass instruments compared to all other musical instruments and made it the basis of a didactic concept, is now protected by trademark law.

Burba teaches at the Musikhochschule Rheinland-Pfalz in Mainz . Since the winter semester 2009/2010 he has been teaching together with Till Brönner at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden in the field of jazz / rock / pop. Before that he was also at the Jazz Institute Berlin (2006–2009) and at the Musikhochschule in Cologne (1989–2002). He gives workshops worldwide. His best known students include Till Brönner, Joo Kraus , Axel Dörner , Chris Walden and Julian Wasserfuhr .
