Dirk Barsikow (born October 1, 1962 in Friedland ) is a former German soccer player and today's soccer coach.

Athletic career

Dirk Barsikow comes from the youth department at BSG Post Neubrandenburg . In 1982 the Mecklenburg player played for the first time in the team of the GDR league club . In 1983 Barsikow was drafted into the NVA and switched to local rival Vorwärts Neubrandenburg during his service . The possible promotion with Vorwärts in the GDR Oberliga was denied Barsikow by the dissolution of the army sports community.

Then Barsikow hired again until 1989 at the BSG Post. At the beginning of 1989, the until then rather unknown defense strategist moved to the GDR Oberliga for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt . Previously, the BSG had tried to refuse the release, only after a ruling by the GDR Football Association was Barsikow eligible to play for the FCK from February 6, 1989. Barsikow was able to assert himself there straight away and had the most successful period of his career with the “Himmelblauen”. With FCK he reached the final of the FDGB Cup in 1989 , but lost 0: 1 to BFC Dynamo . After the runner-up in 1990 Barsikow came against Juventus Turin , Boavista Porto , Borussia Dortmund and FC Sion to a total of six appearances in the UEFA Cup . He missed making it to the final of the DFB Cup due to a surprising defeat against the amateurs from Hertha BSC .

Barsikow ended his career in 1994 with Chemnitzer FC, the successor club to FCK. He then worked for many years in the CFC's coaching division and also briefly acted as head coach of the Saxons in 2002 and 2004. Since February 2008 he was co-trainer of the FSV Zwickau alongside Peter Keller and Matthias Zimmerling , and between October 2009 and February 24, 2010 he was also the head trainer of the FSV.

Barsikow is an honorary member of Chemnitzer FC.
