Dirk Joeres

Dirk Joeres (* 1947 in Bonn ) is a German pianist and conductor.

Life

Joeres received his first piano lessons at the age of six, and at the age of eleven he was accepted at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Düsseldorf . After graduating from high school, Dirk Joeres studied piano and conducting in Berlin, Cologne and London. Joeres studied for a year in Paris with the French composer, conductor and music teacher Nadia Boulanger .

In 1972 Dirk Joeres won first prize at the Vercelli competition. He then performed in several European countries. In 1975 Joeres had his breakthrough in Duisburg, when, surprisingly, within a few hours, he was engaged in a piano recital for Claudio Arrau , who suddenly fell ill . Dirk Joeres once said that he does not feel fulfilled in a life as a traveling virtuoso, quote: The time of the traveling virtuoso seems to be a thing of the past . That is why he repeatedly gave moderation concerts and soon intensified his work as a conductor.

1978 Dirk Joeres undertook his first tour as a soloist and conductor in cooperation with the Chamber Orchestra of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra . In 1979 a tour with the London Mozart Players followed . Joeres has been a permanent guest conductor of the Bornemouth Sinfonietta since 1982 . From 1983 he directed the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra for two years . He was then invited as a guest conductor by the Symphony Orchestra of the North German Radio and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra , and since 2007 he has been a permanent guest conductor of this London orchestra.

As a pianist, Dirk Joeres focuses on the Viennese classical music , Schubert's piano music, Johannes Brahms and, last but not least, the broad field of 20th century music.
