Dirk Notz (born June 16, 1975 in Geneva ) is a German climate scientist . He is head of the research group “Sea Ice in the Earth System” at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg.

Life

From 1996 to 2001, Notz studied meteorology at the University of Hamburg and during that time also Arctic geophysics at the University Center in Svalbard on Spitzbergen . Between 2002 and 2005 he did his PhD at Cambridge University on Thermodynamic and Fluid-Dynamical Processes in Sea Ice . Since 2008 he has headed the research group “Sea Ice in the Earth System” at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg. Together with Arved Fuchs , he organizes international youth camps on climate issues. In 2017 he was a guest at the Berlin International Literature Festival . He appears on television as an expert, for example, in September 2018 the 3sat telecast nano .
