Dirk Wippermann

Dirk Wippermann (born January 27, 1946 in Othfresen ) is a former German discus thrower who was fourth at the European Championships in Helsinki in 1971 .

Wippermann started his career at ATV Düsseldorf , from 1970 to 1974 he competed for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , before he started for SG Osterfeld Oberhausen for two years , after which he returned to Düsseldorf. After winning the German Youth Championships in 1964, he finished fourth at the German Championships in 1965, and was fifth the following year. In 1967 he took second place behind Hein-Direck Neu with 56.90 m . In September 1967 he threw his first German record with 61.64 m. After Wippermann had to leave out completely in 1968, he returned in 1969 in fourth place at the German Championships. In October 1969 he threw another German record with 62.28 m. In 1970 he won the German Championships for the first time with 60.92 m. After Neu had surpassed his record in July 1970, Wippermann threw the discus to 64.14 m in August. In 1971 Wippermann took second place behind Klaus-Peter Hennig at the German Championships . At the European Championships in Helsinki he threw 61.36 m and took fourth place, he missed the bronze medal of the Hungarian Geza Fejer by eighteen centimeters. On October 23, 1971, he threw the discus in Aachen at 65.88 m, his fourth national German record was his only all-German record. In 1973 Siegfried Pachale from Cottbus surpassed him , in the Federal Republic of Germany held his record until 1977 when Hein-Direck Neu increased the record to 68.08 m. In 1972 Wippermann won his second German championship title, at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich Wippermann was eliminated in qualification. In 1973 Wippermann finished third again at the German Championships, in 1974 he was sixth.

With a height of 1.97 m, his competition weight was 125 kg.
