distribution
The natural range of the eight species according to Kubitzki is in the southern hemisphere, five species grow in South America ( e.g. Discaria chacaye ), two ( Discaria nitida and Discaria pubescens ) in Australia and one in New Zealand ( Discaria toumatou ).
Systematics and research history
Discaria is a genus from the family of the Buckthorn family (Rhamnaceae), in which they are of the tribe Colletieae is assigned. William Jackson Hooker first scientifically described the genus in his Botanical Miscellany in 1829 . Synonyms of the genus are Chacaya Escal. and Notophaena Miers .
According to Kubitzki, eight types are distinguished; the Plant List indicates the following types:
- Discaria americana Gillies & Hook.
- Discaria articulata (Phil.) Miers
- Discaria chacaye (G.Don) Tortosa : It occurs in Argentina and Chile.
- Discaria nitida Tortosa
- Discaria pubescens (Brongn.) Druce
- Discaria serratifolia Benth. & Hook.f. ex mast. (a hybrid according to the Plant List)
- Discaria toumatou Raoul
